If you want to hit a target, then it requires you to shoot the bow. The arrow will not magically stick in the target, you will not just wake up and everything will be solved for you. In the art of reality creation, it is very easy to get disconnected from reality as you become that which you want to be. The issue with this is that in the present moment, you still are the old you at the moment. You still have your old problems and issues; they don’t just disappear overnight. That is why setting an intention is so important. It keeps you on track and stands as a reminder of where you are going, and where you currently are. Imagine If you wanted to run a marathon. The first thing you would do if you wanted to succeed is to set an intention to COMPLETE a marathon. Once the intention is set it makes the other energetic tasks to fulfill the wish quite easy. Oh, you are going for a 14 mile run 3 times a week? Training. You gave up alcohol because the hangovers increased your mile time. It had to be done. There are millions of examples of what could easily be changed given the proper intention. Intention does not actually achieve your goal in any meaningful way – it won’t go out and make the money or do the extra reps in the gym. The point of intention is to be your personal compass to success. Instead of taking the long way, it provides the quickest route.
Setting an intention is simple. Talk with yourself. If you have a dream to be a writer – tell yourself internally “I am a writer” “I set an intention to write every single day” etc. See the setting of an intention as a promise to become. You are essentially telling your subconscious “Hey, this thing is important to me. I am setting an intention to achieve it and you are going to help me.” Don’t see the words you speak as empty, or fruitless. They bear fruit via new thoughts that align with your intention. I want you to do an experiment with me, what is one thing you want to get better at? Set an intention to practice it for 10 minutes a day, shit you can do 5 to begin. SET this intention with the intent to grow, learn and enjoy your experience with this new skill. You will start to notice the internal thoughts you have, mirror the intention you set if firm enough. Going back to the prior example, writing, this would start off by feeling the desire to write after setting the intention. When you speak the intention, you are putting energy into the universe that has potential (either dissipated or balanced) So for the writer this intention will give them a boost of energy that can be used in two ways, mainly. Firstly, they will gain a boost of motivation and just want to write, no matter the topic. This intention will change their subconscious thoughts to allow for new neurons to form that support the growth of the intended skill. This excess energy is important because it can be used to achieve a state of flow where the work becomes play and therefore the individual response will be more positive to the activity, thus reinforcing it. The other option is to not do what you have intended. This comes with consequences! Energetically it is far worse to set lofty goals and do nothing, than to just do nothing. The creation of excess potential energy is the secret to the effectiveness of intention; however, it is also the biggest downfall. Everything plays together so this sort of relates back to the ask & receive concept as well. You want something, you get the energy for it, then you get it. That is a gross oversimplification but my point being is that the middle section, “the energy for it,” comes with consequences & benefits. All you want is possible through this energy when applied to action. However, when tapped into and left to stagnate this energy will wreak havoc on your emotional, mental & physical reality – in whatever way the balanced energy manifests.
My advice for setting an intention is to do so via journaling. When you wake up every morning get a pad of paper and write down your intention for the day, week, year. I do these three. Then draw dividing lines between the 3 columns. Within the 3 columns write down the tasks that will help achieve your goal and your image of yourself in the time frame. Weight loss is the easiest, so I’ll do an intention example for that:
1. Today – Walk 30 minutes on the treadmill, fast until 2 PM for first meal, Drink 10 glasses of water
2. This Week – Go to the store and buy healthy groceries (no sugar or sweets), get to the gym 4 times, reduce drinking to 2 beers when out with friends on the weekend, in bed by 10 EVERY night
3. This Year – Learn to cook, make new friends that enjoy a healthy lifestyle, pick up a new outdoors hobby (hiking, cycling, fishing etc.)
From the above you can see how it is broken down and why this is a more effective way to stay on top of your goals. If you want a 6 pack, it may take you a year. That time frame makes the goal seem unachievable however when broken down to 3 separate sets of intention it makes it easier. In the short term you will need to go to the gym, eat better food and drink more water. Good. Mid-term there are other habits that need to be implemented, but hard to do so on a day scale. This is where I included groceries (nutrition), Quantity of weekly exercise, decrease in habitual drinking, increase in sleep. The weekly section is what I like to deem the habit building section. Based off the intention you have set it will highlight and lowlight different habits you have. Some stuff will be able to stay, others will need to be cleared out. If you are true to your intention, then the excess potential energy provided should ease the transition in habits. The final section is the annual section. I deem these as the lifestyle changes; changes that support the goal and its continuance. Cooking will increase your ability to track your calories. New friends change locations/events/occasions that will align with your new health centric life. New hobbies will do the same as the friends. Although incredibly simplistic, this is a great method for organizing your thoughts and intentions. Maximizing the energy you can use while limiting the excess balancing forces is the gold standard we should all strive for. Thanks for reading, Love you guys.
